In this lesson, we'll cover some important topics about mathematics.

The mathematics can be divided into subareas: Number Theory, Algebra, Combinatorics, and Geometry. In this course, we'll look at some topics of the first subareas only. We will have a course entirely focused on geometry in the future.

Number Theory

This subarea of mathematics studies the integers numbers and their properties. We will study only basic concepts of this subarea in this class. During the course, we will still see some topics related to it.

Divisors and multiples

Consider that we have two integers and such that is an integer (that is, the remainder of the division of by is ). In this case, we can say that is a divisor of or is a multiple of .

To say that is a divisor of , we use the following notation: . And, if is not a divisor of , we can use the following notation: .

Let's see some examples:

  • is a divisor of (consequently, is a multiple of )
  • is a divisor of (consequently, is a multiple of )
  • is a multiple of (consequently, is a divisor of )
